Q&As

Question:

Here’s my question as promised.  So I have some swag - little stressballs with my name on it.  They cost around $3 to make.   I wanted to give them to people if they donate $20/$25 or more to the campaign.

Was thinking of doing it at events.

Do I need to get a receipt from those people as it’s under $25.

Answer (provided by Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing):

In this case, you would not be required to issue a receipt if the difference between the item’s cost and sale price (donation) is below $25 and as it would be classified as campaign income and not considered a contribution. An example is outlined in the candidates guide.

It is, however, good practice to keep track of these donations as multiple contributions can cross the $25 threshold in which contribution receipts would have to be issued.
